New products from RS Tennis introduced at 2016 IART symposium

One of our special guests at this year’s IART symposium was Robin Soderling who’s new company, RS Tennis, offers tennis balls, strings and overgrips. We all enjoyed some time on court with Robin on Saturday as he fired his patented “power” serve at everyone who was brave enough to take a shot at returning it. His fastest recorded serve while on tour was 143 mph and it goes without saying that none of us had ever seen anything like that in our weekly tennis outings!

IART has tested two of the strings and they can now be found in the String Characteristics DB-just search using keyword “Soderling”. Both strings listed are 18 gauge poly’s so for those players looking for thinner gauge polyester strings the Soderling line will be something you will want to check out. The first, the Soderling RS Paris Octagon 120, has a power potential rating of 2.75 (quite stiff) and an approximate tensile strength of 106. The second string, the Soderling RS Lyon 120 is also an 18 gauge string that has a power potential rating of 4.95, nearly twice that of the Octagon model and it has an approximate tensile strength of 108. I would place these two strings in a category for an advanced player with full strokes seeking to maximize control in their game. If you’re using a racquet such as the Head frame Robin Soderling uses with an 18×20 string pattern the 18 gauge string is a welcome addition for those tighter string pattern racquets.
RS Tennis has also introduced the RS All Court Black Edition ball that comes with 4 balls in one can. This is particularly nice for those playing doubles, offering two balls for each side of the court while warming up for the match. It’s also a very nice feature as play begins by providing that one additional ball to encourage continuous play without having to stop play, go retrieve another ball, and then resume play. I had an opportunity to hit with these balls recently and would compare them to the Penn balls I normally play with. I thought they held up great and play was exceptional. My hitting partner agreed that the Soderling balls played and felt more like the Penn balls we often played with.
There are other products int he RS Tennis line like a nylon string, RS Truetac overgrips, RS vibration dampers & hats. For a complete list of RS Tennis products go HERE

I’ve tried the Lyon 120 Robin gave us at the Symposium and found it pretty nice. Low-powered, to be sure, but control was excellent and shock was minimal for a monofilament string. Definitely one to consider putting on the wall.
PS: I returned his serve!
Hey Matt was that the serve that bounced off of your chest and over the net (hehehehe).
My chest isn’t strung that tightly anymore!
