I found the course to be very beneficial. I am new to stringing rackets, having only been doing it for a couple of months. All the info is there to make a good start. My only suggestion is in regards to the type of machines that beginners will likely be using. For a complete beginner I am fairly confident, unless they have money to burn (in which case fire away), most will be starting out on either on a lock out (Crank) or drop weight stringing machine. Therefore some videos showing methods and techniques for those would be ideal as they involve more manual time than simply pressing a switch or button on a constant pull machine. Other than that I am very happy.
From IART: Thanks for the feedback on the machines Michael. You can see a full review of the Prince NEOS 1000 lockout machine in the media library by using the search function on the home page. We’ll try to get more info in the basic stringing course on dropweight and manual lockout machines
As a beginner, the Basic Racquet Stringing 101 course helped me gain comprehensive knowledge on correctly stringing a tennis racquet from start to finish. I’m confident that I will be doing a great stringing job on my racquets to improve my game overall.
WOW, what a great course! I have learnt so much and reinforced the knowledge that I already have. Each section was carefully thought out and included many detailed videos along the way. Now, I can take on more string jobs with the confidence I have gained from this course to complete more consistent work—very intuitive and clear course content with the many videos I mentioned to help me along the way. I have grown into a good stringer and I have IART to help along the way. Now to put my new knowledge to the test with some customer service.
Excellent course! This course has reinforced my knowledge and gave me a new perspective on stringing a racket. The content is very complete and covers all the aspects to be developed in the stringing process, well done!
The table of contents is organized according to the order of the string process, making it easy to study. I like that it was well organized to suit the basic course
Thoroughly enjoyed the course. Good for my confidence.
I recently finished the Advanced Racquet Stringing course offered by IART. I found the course very good. Actually, having attended IART Symposiums in the past this was almost like attending one. The upside to taking this course is you can get every lesson offered instead of having to pick and choose classes. All the modules are carefully presented and flow nicely from beginning to end. I’ve been stringing for many years, and I suppose you could say that I’m very set in my ways. But this course kept my attention, and I couldn’t wait to get to the next module after finishing the previous one. You never stop learning!
I used information I learned this past week dealing with a customer and I was able to explain the issue in a way which made me stand out as a professional. I have a customer that will be coming back with more business! Did I say, “Value Added”? Thank you IART. To anyone that signs up for this course you will find great instructions, tips, and ideas that will make you a better stringer. From beginning to end you will absorb valuable knowledge regarding machines and tools, string, stringing tips, patterns, tools, plus merchandising and customer relations. The videos are a wonderful addition to further the written lessons, and I strongly recommend to anyone taking the course to take the time to view them all. Not only do they add to the written lessons, but you will probably learn additional things just from watching. The test questions were prepared from each module and thought provoking. Study the module and read the test questions (maybe twice) and think before you answer. Actually, the questions are there to make you think and that’s all part of the learning process.Thank you, Tim, for your efforts to help make us all better in our stringing business.
Knowing your “base” is a great way to start advancing in anything, and this course does exactly that. You lay a base of knowledge that pushes your curiosity to learn more. After the Basic Stringing 101 course, you are perfectly set up to move forward in your profession.
Love the closer views on stringing tips. More useful tips on various weaving methods and ideas on racquet maintenance. Loved the business ideas too.
Excellent course! A true soup-to-nuts magnum opus on all things stringing and stringing related topics. It really brought all the aspects of string, stringing, rackets and racket customization together in a modularized format that was easy to follow and comprehend.
Well done!
Exceptional service is the hallmark of a great business, and exceptional service is impossible without exceptional knowledge. The information in this course will provide you with the expertise you need to advance your business to the next level and beyond. I always try to learn new things, and this course showed me a few things I had forgotten, and instilled some new knowledge I’ll definitely use to help my business. Taking this course was like being at an IART symposium where the knowledge comes from decades of experience and allows you to be confident you know what you are talking about in some sections while showing you the right things about those where you are weak. Well worth the time and money for anyone wanting to advance in their craft.
Major thanks to Tim and all the IART Ambassadors for their dedication to the craft of racquet service!
“My name is Luiz Machado. I’m a recreational tennis player, and after many years without playing, I started playing again a few months ago. I already had an old racquet and went to a local store to change the strings. I was surprised and a little confused by the number of string and racquet options available. Then, I realized how outdated I am. I started researching and watching tutorials about racquets and strings. I found a lot of information, but there wasn’t a place that taught solid fundamentals. On a YouTube channel, I discovered IART’s Basic Tennis Stringing 101 course and it was what I needed. The course is very well designed, with essential information for anyone who wants to learn how to correctly string a tennis racquet. All the necessary basics for the student to begin the activity with confidence and security are explained in theory and demonstrated in very educational videos. Instructors demonstrate extraordinary knowledge and skill. The learning pace is very smooth and gradual, with no doubts left at the end of the sections. It’s a course I’m happy to have completed, and I recommend it to anyone looking for theoretical and practical knowledge about stringing tennis rackets. Thank you very much.”
Hi Tim,
I just finished Basic Stringing 101. I’ve been stringing for quite a while, but I can tell you I learned a lot taking this course. There are so many suggestions and different ways to accomplish and complete a racquet that really helps. I will definitely keep going back to review the videos. Thanks for all you do for us stringers.
Continued success,
Bill Bertagnoli
Mr. Tim
Thanks for the in-depth training course! I found it to be excellent. A very nice refresher course, even for those of us with years of experience! You managed to jog my memory a lot. This would be a great course for all shops to train or retrain all technicians properly. The insight you gave was priceless, especially for me, coming after my stroke with some memory loss. Again, thank you !!! It was very well done and easy to understand with all the why and why not of everything.

I took the Basic Racquet Stringing 101 Course offered by IART. In my opinion this is the best course that has ever been offered. During my many years of racquet stringing I have seen many “how to string a tennis racquet” videos, written articles, etc .. many not so good and some not good at all. I’m amazed at the time and effort that was dedicated to this project. The structure and content is presented in a way to keep the novice stringer and even those who have been stringing a long time anxious to keep learning and looking forward to the next section.
I highly suggest that anyone interested in learning the correct procedures of racquet service to take this course. Experienced stringers like me will be pleasantly surprised to pick up new ideas and procedures while following the studies. (You’re never too old to learn!)
To Tim and the other contributors, a big Thank You for your valued time and dedication to the stringing community.

The IART has everything you need to successfully train and help you to become better at all parts of racquet stringing. It’s not just about stringing though. They cover all areas of racquet service with videos, interaction with other technicians, and information to keep you updated. A big plus is you have access to ask questions in their Q&A section to get answers from others who have vast amounts of experience. No matter where you are as far as your personal experience you can learn something new every day from the IART community.
The International Alliance of Racquet Technicians (IART) is an excellent resource for all stringers! If you’re learning the ropes and preparing to become certified, you can access all the stringing tips and videos shared by other IART veteran stringers. Maybe you’re a seasoned tournament stringer and operate your own stringing business. In that case, the monthly newsletters are a great way to stay in touch with the latest industry trends and valuable technical information. As one of IART’s Global Ambassadors, I always enjoy reading the articles that my colleagues post! But besides providing an excellent resource for all dedicated racquet stringers, IART has a unique interactive component. IART’s creator, Tim Strawn, has worked relentlessly since 2002, as it has evolved over the years. I look forward to the new website launch coming out soon!
By subscribing to IART, not only are you a member, you’re part of a community of passionate stringers who care about the art of racquet service.
I first met Tim in 2006 when he came and helped train over 40 Professional Tennis Management students at Methodist University about how to handle and string natural gut the proper way. It was clear at that time that his vast experience and knowledge made him one of the leading stringing experts in the field.
It was after that initial meeting that I started attending the IART symposium (formerly GSS). This event truly helped mold my career path allowing me to learn essential stringing and customization skills, understand product development and even more importantly network with some of the most influential stringers in the world.
If you are interested in learning how to string, opening a stringing business or even becoming an elite tour stringer there is no better place to learn and network with key people in the stringing world than the IART platform.
Tim is a great help to the players at our camp. The average tennis player has no idea of the importance of equipment management. In tennis your racquet is your weapon. You cannot expect to perform if your weapon isn’t balanced, weighted correctly, strung properly and suites your game. Tim delivers exceptional service and guidance for managing your equipment as well as enhancing your play through your racquet having the correct specifications. This is important at every level but it’s really important when you are rotating racquets and breaking strings on a regular basis at advanced levels of play. He not only handles things for us locally at the camp in Virginia he also works with our players when they are traveling playing events all over!
My name is Mark Campanile and I am proud to be an Ambassador for the IART for many reasons. First and foremost, I have a great deal of respect for the founder of the site, Tim Strawn, because of his passion for the art of stringing, the game of tennis and his love of teaching and sharing his vast knowledge. Secondly, the IART site has a wealth of information on a variety of matters that pertain to racquet sports, racquet stringing and racquet & string technologies. It would be difficult to find a better site if you have an interest in learning more about the world of racquet sports, racquet stringing, racquets, strings, stringing machines and other professionals in the business. Check it out. It will be worth your time and investment!
