2014 IART Symposium Wilson/Luxilon Speed Stringing
Wilson has announced new changes to the speed stringing contest held at the annual IART symposium. Most noticeably, Luxilon has been added to the mix and since Luxilon strings will be used for the competition, it’s a logical move for the name change.
It’s been no secret that those who compete typically have a desire to get involved with tour stringing and winners in past competitions have actually earned a spot on the Wilson tour stringing team. Wilson is the official stringing team of the U.S. Open, the Australian Open and the Sony Ericcson in Miami. Since team leader Ron Rocchi oversees this competition, it makes sense that competitors make every effort to get in front of him in hopes of getting recognized. So, Rocchi decided to make it official. In 2014, both the winner and the runner-up will receive a one-on-one evaluation with Mr Rocchi, each receiving direct feedback on their performance. The prizes have also been enhanced and this year will include the following:
- Winner will receive one reel of Luxilon string, 1 Spin Effect racquet and one pair of Wilson Rush Pro tennis shoes
- Winner & runner-up will also receive a 3-piece Xuron tool kit from IART
Last year’s winner was Stockton Morris of Haveford, PA with a winning time of 15.10.1 The runner-up was Patrick Martin. Each contestant had to string a Wilson frame with an 18×20 pattern using all polyester string.
