2014 Wilson Speed Stringing Contest

Many of our participants in this event have had aspirations of becoming a tour stringer, this is no secret.
Pictured at right are the two 2013 finalists, Stockton Morris & Patrick Martin (center). Stockton won the competition but it was close!
Here are a few changes for the 2014 competition:
1) Both the winner and runner-up will receive a private evaluation from Wilson’s Ron Rocchi, team leader for the Wilson Tour Services stringing team. Each will be reviewed as a potential future member of the Wilson/Luxilon stringing team.
2) Winner will receive a reel of Luxilon string, 1 Wilson Spin Effect frame of their choice and 1 pair of Rush Pro tennis shoes
3) Both will receive an IART 3-piece professional tool kit
The speed stringing contest is always one of the more fun things we do as a group at the symposium. With the opportunities offered we expect we’ll have a lot of contestants once again in 2014!

Any video of last years?
Not sure Alexander but I can dig around and see what I can find
Great prizes Tim! An enormous thanks most go to Ron and Wilson for their continued support of the event, looking forward to this years event!!
Yes I agree David. Ron Rocchi has been a solid supporter of the symposium since it’s inception. He and Wilson always come through with tremendous presentations that enhance and enrich those in attendance and all who join us can clearly see the impact Ron and Wilson have had on the symposium.
This year will be no different in that Ron and Wilson will be back stronger than ever. Ron realizes that those competing in the speed stringing contest have aspirations of becoming a tour stringer and this is precisely why he chose to change the contest this year. It’s always fun for the spectators and I know each contestant enjoys the challenge. With more on the line this year we’re probably going to have to limit the number of entries since we only have just so much time to get everyone on and off the machine. To that end, I would recommend that anyone interested in competing this year to register just as soon as the registration is open. I hope to have that done no later than April 1st.
Looking forward to it !!!
Oh do I sense a defense of the title? I’d love to see you take a shot at that Stockton!
Perhaps you could run the competition over more than one night, to allow more people to enter.
What about a speed competition for badminton/squash too??
Hi Brian
I’ve actually tried to spread the speed stringing out over the course of the symposium but found that it presents scheduling problems. The remaining evening times after Saturday need to be left open for sponsors who wish time for round tables and since everyone likes to be there when we have the speed stringing it just doesn’t work too well to spread it out. It’s possible we could always go later if necessary on Saturday and that would come down to the number of contestants and machines available.
Never had a request for badminton/squash speed stringing. we could always see if there’s any interest during the wrap-up session this year and if so, maybe add it in 2015!
