Orobor – Tennis Strings Reborn
Do you know about Orobor? You should, especially if you’re a racquet stringer or in the restringing business. Why? Because now, those valuable polyester strings you cut out of your customers’ racquets don’t have to go to waste. They can be recycled and repurposed, and your passion for racquet stringing can extend to helping the environment!
Orobor is a company that collects and transforms tennis string waste into high-quality, traceable materials, repurposing racquet strings into apparel, and powering a cleaner, more transparent future.

Orobor was founded by two college tennis players at Boston University, Jonah Dickson and Jakob Esterowitz. Together with their team, they aim to inspire sustainable practices across industries, staying rooted in the same values of teamwork and dedication they learned on the court.
For more information about them and their mission, watch this video HERE.
I recently strung at the Tiburon Challenger along with IART members Roger Gough and David Hall. Here’s a video I posted about our string-saving efforts. Watch HERE.
COLLECT
Now, here’s how you can help save the planet and help Orobor’s efforts.
- Stuff your polyester strings in a box. I typically use a box about the size of a large USPS box, which weighs about 2 pounds; however, any box will do.
- Go to their website HERE.
- Click “SEND STRING”
- Enter your contact information along with the box dimension and weight.
- You’ll receive an email instantly with a UPS prepaid label.
- Drop it off at a UPS Store.
By following these simple steps, you ensure discarded polyester strings are diverted from landfills and repurposed for recycling into virgin-quality materials for clothing manufacturing!
REPURPOSE
Orobor has partnered with the most advanced recycling facilities in the world. Advanced processing and chemical innovation ensure quality assurance, and materials are 100% GRS certified.
COLLABORATE
The recycled materials are crafted into high-quality fashion items, completing the circular economy and giving tennis strings a second life.
ONE FOR THE COURT
Orobor is launching its apparel soon and will be partnering with non-profit organizations around the world that empower kids in underprivileged communities through the tennis program, One for the Court. Orobor believes the game of tennis is bigger when everyone has a chance to play. For every adult t-shirt purchased, they donate a kids’ t-shirt to a young player who needs it most.
“Every shirt is more than apparel — it’s an opportunity to grow the game and extend its reach to places where it can have the greatest impact. Together, we are giving back to the sport that has given us so much.”
