Wimbledon Update
The last 2 American men fell in the Wimbledon quarterfinals as Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul had impressive deep runs at Wimbledon this year. Unfortunately, both fell short in the quarterfinals. After winning the first set, Paul lost in 4 to Alcaraz. Fritz was up and down but finally fell in a tough 5-setter to Italian Lorenzo Musetti. The semis will see Alcaraz facing Medvedev and Musetti facing Djokovic, who caught a lucky break with a walkover into the semis when Alex De Minaur had to default due to an injury.
On the women’s side, injury seems to have decimated the draw. Madison Keys clearly had the momentum and was on her way to a win against Jasmine Paolini when she pulled up with an injury and had to withdraw, with the match tied at 5-5 in the third set. Coco Gauf fell to American Emma Navarro 6-4, 6-3, and then Navarro proceeded to lose 6-2, 6-1 to Paolini, which eliminated the last American woman in the singles draw. Currently, you’d be hard-pressed to bet against Rybakina to win it all.
So, who are your picks for this year’s Championships? I’m going with Alcaraz and Rybakina.
